Artists

We’re looking for Highland-based freelance artists with experience in social engagement, inclusion, and participatory practice to play a vital role in supporting Rural Health Equity. You’ll collaborate with us to lead the preparation, development and delivery of inclusive, participant-led community engagement activities and events focused on arts, culture and heritage.

Our aim is to reach individuals in rural communities who may not typically take part in arts, cultural or heritage initiatives. You will therefore need experience in engaging diverse and often underrepresented audiences.

Community engagement activities and events will be hosted by organisations that deliver cultural, artistic, creative or heritage-based services within their local communities. Examples may include arts centres, community hubs, galleries, museums, libraries, or heritage and historical organisations.

What’s Involved?

You will be commissioned by the Rural Health Equity project team to lead the planning, development and delivery of community engagement activities. This will include responsibilities such as risk assessment and safeguarding. Activities will take place within specific community areas across the Highlands. You will also support broader outreach, events and promotional objectives.

Three rounds of community engagement will be held in each of the designated areas through to December 2027, creating opportunities to promote health, wellbeing and social connection. Participants may also choose to deepen their involvement by engaging with the project team through community-led research, co-design activities or events, although this is not essential.

You may be asked to support the project team and Stakeholder Group in recruiting participants for both community engagement and research activities. You may also be asked to liaise with the team on integrating community research and data capture into engagement activities where appropriate.

There are currently no opportunities for delivering community engagement activities - If you would like to be notified about future opportunities, please register your interest using the form below.

Organisations

We’re looking for Highlands-based arts, culture and heritage organisations to partner with in supporting Rural Health Equity. Organisational partner will play a key role by providing space to host inclusive, participant-led community engagement activities and events focused on arts, culture and heritage.

Activities and events will be delivered by local freelance artists and the project team, all of whom have experience engaging diverse audiences. The aim is to reach individuals in rural communities who may not typically participate in arts, cultural or heritage initiatives. Examples of local community organisations we hope to collaborate with include arts centres, community centres, galleries, museums, libraries and heritage or historical organisations.

What's Involved?

Three rounds of engagement activities will take place in each community area through to December 2027. You will be asked to support Rural Health Equity by providing space for these community engagement activities, as well as community-led research and occasional project events.

These activities will provide opportunities to support health, wellbeing and social connection. Partners and participants may also choose to engage with the project team through community-led research, co-design activities and events, although this is not essential.

You will also be asked to attend online meetings typically every two to three months depending on project priorities. In addition you’ll support project promotion and contribute to the planning and delivery of activities and events including operational tasks such as risk assessment and safeguarding.

There are currently no opportunities for delivering community engagement activities - If you would like to be notified about future opportunities, please register your interest using the form below.

Stakeholders

We’re looking to engage and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders - nationally, regionally and from rural communities across the Highlands. The goal is to ensure the project is responsive and inclusive, enabling those who experience disadvantage and marginalisation to participate in both research and local arts and heritage activities.

The Stakeholder Group will provide strategic guidance on effectively engaging diverse communities, addressing the complexities of rural health inequalities and leveraging heritage related assets in innovative ways to enhance health and well-being.

The group will contribute to:

Ensuring diverse and inclusive representation in our work.

Sharing specialist knowledge and technical expertise.

Offering constructive feedback and reflection throughout the project.

Supporting the development of partnerships and project profile.

What’s Involved?

Participation is entirely voluntary and designed to be flexible. Engagement will primarily take place through occasional online meetings over the course of the project. You may also be invited to share your views via short surveys, polls, or brief email exchanges, typically no more than once every month or two. Attendance at every meeting is not required.
